Before installation please check voltage, frequency and ambient temperature, if they are in accordance with required standards as described herewith.
Operating temperatures
Avoid installation close to external heat source! Do not install capacitor close to significant heat sources such as detuning reactors.
Ensure appropriate cooling!
Correct mounting position and location
Capacitors with viscose fill shall be installed uprights with terminals facing upwards. Gas filled capacitors can be mounted in any position.
Do not install capacitors in position with terminals pointing downwards.
Safe connection
Cross section of connecting wires shall be projected in accordance with IEC70 and IEC831 for min 1,5 times of rated capacitor current. For connection of capacitors use materials in accordance with local regulative. Do not solder! Do not exceed the permitted max current values per contact as specified below even when coupling capacitors parallel.
Safe earthing
Capacitors with metal case have to be earthed at the mounting stud or by means of separate metal strap or clamp.
Check, if earthing is conductive.
Dangerous residual voltage
Due to high insulation strength, capacitors can store dangerous residual voltage. From that reason always short-circuit and discharge capacitor before you touch terminals.
Minimum requirement in accordance with IEC 831: discharge with permanently connected resistors to 75 V and less within 3 min.
Ensure discharge of capacitor to max. 10 % of its rated voltage before its connection.
Note: During permanent operation discharge resistors get very hot up to 200 °C.
